Southwest Key Financial and Service Data

With an increased demand for our services, Southwest Key continued to expand and diversify funding in 2007. Operating revenues grew to $49 million, including a multi-million dollar capital campaign culminating in the construction and near completion of the East Austin Community Development Project in 2007. The organization employed over 1000 people nationwide, including over 950 direct care professionals in the field. Funding for Southwest Key programs and administration came from grants and contracts with federal, state, and local governments, foundations, corporations, individuals, and special events.

Southwest Key IRS Form 990

As a 501(c)(3) organization, Southwest Key files a Form 990 each year with the Internal Revenue Service. This return provides detailed financial data, a listing of annual expenses and sources of revenue, and other information about our organization. Southwest Key shares information about operations and finances with GuideStar, the leading source of information on US nonprofits. GuideStar is a searchable database of more than 1.7 million IRS-recognized nonprofit organizations. To promote transparency, Southwest Key has recently submitted information for external review to the Charity Navigator site. Charity Navigator, America's premier independent charity evaluator, works to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace by evaluating the financial health of over 5,300 of America's largest charities. Southwest Key is also in the process of being accredited by the nationally-renowned Council on Accreditation (www.coanet.org).

Audited Financial Statements

Southwest Key engages an independent accounting firm, Sprouse & Anderson LLP, to conduct an annual examination of the organization’s books, records, and fiscal policies and procedures. They present the audited financial statements to the Southwest Key Board of Directors annually. For almost two decades, Southwest Key has received a completely unqualified opinion from its auditors, with no questions, significant deficiencies, or materials weaknesses cited.
